Dental Crowns & Bridges

If you are worried about missing or damaged teeth affecting your smile, the Mt. Vernon Center for Dentistry can help you! We are skilled in placing both dental crowns and dental bridges to help repair your smile.

Dental Crowns

When a tooth is cracked, chipped, or decayed past what a simple filling can fix, a dentist will use dental crowns to cover the damaged teeth.

What Is a Dental Crown?

Dental crowns, also called caps, cover damaged teeth and protect them from more harm. In the past they’ve been made from metal, but here in Alexandria we offer ceramic and porcelain crowns. These types of crowns are both safer for your health and more attractive for your smile because we color-match them to your current teeth.

The Dental Crown Procedure

Dr. Geren or Dr. Mady will start by taking an impression of the tooth in need. Using that impression, they will then craft a custom crown—made of either ceramic or porcelain—to perfectly fit over your tooth and match the color of the rest of your teeth. Once the crown is finished, it will then be fastened safely to your tooth with dental cement to ensure its durability.

Benefits of Dental Crowns

The biggest benefit of getting a dental crown is restoring the protection for your tooth. When the outer enamel of your teeth is damaged by a chip, crack, or decay, the sensitive nerves on the inside of your tooth are left vulnerable. Dental crowns take the place of that protective enamel to relieve your pain and restore your peace of mind with regards to your oral health.

At our office in Alexandria, we also offer you ceramic and porcelain crowns, which have the added benefit of restoring the physical appearance of your damaged teeth. We specifically color-match all of our ceramic or porcelain crowns to the same custom shade as the rest of your teeth, so you shouldn’t notice any of your dental work. You’ll only see your natural smile!

Dental Bridges

If you’ve been hiding your teeth due to unsightly gaps, we offer tooth replacement solutions, known as bridges, to help restore your smile to its former glory.

What Is a Dental Bridge?

Dental bridges are a type of tooth restoration that uses manufactured teeth to replace one or more missing teeth in your smile.

The Dental Bridge Procedure

Dental bridges can be installed multiple ways. Traditional bridges will take a manufactured replacement tooth and fix it to the teeth on either side of the gap with dental crowns. This is a safe and cost-effective method, though it is not completely permanent, and you may need adjustments if your teeth shift.

Another way dental bridges can be installed is with the help of dental implants. Any number of missing teeth in your mouth begins to weaken the jawbone, but dental implants can replace the whole tooth and reinforce the jawbone for a long-term fix.

Dental bridges using implant-supported teeth are better for your total mouth health, and they can last much longer than traditional dental bridges.

Benefits of a Dental Bridge

Whether you get a traditional or implant-supported dental bridge, the cost of once again having a full smile is priceless. With either of these dental bridges, you can once again show your full smile and eat your favorite foods without worrying about damaging your other teeth.

With implant-supported dental bridges, you have the added benefit of strengthening your jawbone and reducing the jawbone decay that comes from missing teeth.
